Ausmelt copper technologies are based on the commercially successful Ausmelt TSL technology. Ausmelt's copper technology is a complete, integrated and flexible system made up of smelting, settling and converting furnaces that produce high quality blister copper from concentrates.

In addition to concentrates, Ausmelt smelting & converting furnaces can also process secondary materials or a combination of concentrates and secondary materials. Ausmelt smelting furnaces are robust and can process up to one million tonnes per year of concentrates in a single furnace.

Ausmelt smelting and converting units can also be operated as stand-alone units, and the furnace configuration can be varied to suit a range of copper applications.

Ausmelt Copper Technology is compatible with other furnace systems and can be combined with existing plant equipment/technologies for expansions, technology modernisation, as well as implementation as a new installation.

Feature - Continuous Converting

To service the current and future requirements of the copper industry, Ausmelt has advanced its semi-continuous copper converting technology (SC) to continuous converting (C3) to enable large scale copper converting while further improving process flexibility, efficiency and ease of operation. C3 produces blister directly from matte removing the need to produce white metal in a cyclic cooperation. C3 can produce blister directly from mattes ranging in grade from 50 to 75% copper, using smelter compatible iron-silicate slag. As an extension of Ausmelt's commercialised systems, C3 allows significant increases in production from a single vessel. Production levels in excess of 400,000 tonnes a year of blister are achievable in a single vessel.

As part of the continuing development of Ausmelt C3 Technology. The C3 process was demonstrated to delegates at Ausmelt's C3 workshop in Melbourne in March 2006. In conjunction with the pilot scale demonstration a number of process and engineering related presentations were made over the two day workshop.
